Some tips for taking buses in the Netherlands:

  • generally the bus driver will be able to speak some English
  • tell the driver you are going to Sportpark De Eendracht and that you need to get off at Wittewaalpad: 'with the waal path'. Or bring a note with you ;-). Most drivers will be so kind as to tell you where to get off.
  • Cheapest way to travel with a bus or tram is with an 'OV chipcard'. OV chipcards are sold at all rail stations. Only one person can travel with a card. Check in when entering a bus or tram and don't forget to check out.
The easiest way to travel is to buy a single travel card in a bus or tram, this is a bit more expensive. Around 3 euro from Central Station to the fields.

Bikes and public transport

If you are going to be in Amsterdam for more days that the tourney lasts we recommend that you rent one for your stay here. Here are the reasons why: Biking is convenient, safe, and a lot of fun. Bicycle paths are everywhere, it is a major part of Amsterdam lifestyle.

Taking a bike from the fields to the city is quite a trip though, around a 40 minutes on avarage. You can also opt to take the bus just outside the sportpark. Bus 192 will take you to Schiphol and bus 21 goes all the way to Central Station. You can find a time schedule in the main tent. Bus tickets can only be bought in the bus, either a 1 or 2-way ticket (3 or 5 euro).

Bikes generally cost around 18 EUR to rent for three days. You could even be like the Dutch and use one bike for two people. Almost convinced you say? Worried about getting lost? Have no fear, we have secured very detailed maps of Amsterdam for you. So, bikes it is! It's the number one method of transport in Amsterdam.
